Towns Pushed To Sign Up For Online Dog Licensing Program
CLYMER — Following a meeting of local town clerks, Clymer’s Town Clerk Wendy Trisket said there has been a push to get towns to sign up for an online dog licensing program, Docupet.
“They’re still pushing for every town to sign up for Docupet,” Trisket said during the town board’s September meeting. “The Chautauqua Humane Society has agreed to pay the full $500,000 start up fee, so no town will have to pay a start up fee now. That’s to entice every town to go ahead and sign up.”
Trisket said basically what Docupet is a dog licensing program that does all of the work, based out of both Canada and Syracuse, and the way that they make their money is out of designer tags, collars, wallet cards and trackers. All of the money for licensing renewals is meant to return to the town. She added that the town’s dog control officer, Kelly Thornton, did not originally like the idea but has expressed that she does now but would like to see everything in writing to make sure nothing tricky is in there.
The town is still able to do the licensing on their part for people like the town’s Amish community who would not use computers.
“They can still come to us and we can still make their accounts for them and we still get the credit for it,” Trisket said.
Along similar lines, the town also briefly discussed another animal related issue in that Deputy Town Clerk, Kathy Crowell, has reported to the town that she has been having mice issues in the fire hall. Getting a cat was jokingly suggested, with other suggestions including traps or an exterminator and Town Supervisor Brian Willink said an exterminator was probably the best option.
“I don’t know if we’ve ever had one down there to take a look at it and see what he thinks,” Willink said.
Exterminator options were discussed and will be looked into to see who can help.
