FINDLEY LAKE — If you have never been to the Findley Lake Library’s Annual Fall Craft Show, library manager Cala Glatz has a few words for you.
“What are you waiting for? We’d love to see you,” she said.
The Alexander Findley Community Library’s annual fall craft show has been a pillar of the autumn season for more than two decades, yet every year, there are people who discover the event for the first time. This year’s event will be on November 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Findley Lake Fire Hall. So far, 22 vendors have reserved tables, two of which are new to the craft fair, Glatz said.
Christmas shoppers and browsers alike will be able to find a wide array of items to peruse and, perhaps, purchase.
As always, the kitchen will be bustling with activity, as Mary Ford, library board vice president, oversees the duties of library trustees who will serve sloppy joes, hot dogs, chicken noodle soup, doughnuts, and “of course, delicious pies generously given by our kind volunteers,” Glatz said.
A very popular aspect of the craft show, the vendor auction, will be back, Glatz said. Each vendor donates one item to be auctioned off at the end of the event.
“It’s very popular and people love having lots of chances to win a free item,” she said. “There is also a 50/50 raffle.”
The library will have a table, not to display items for sale, but to familiarize the public with the work of the library.
“I think it’s important to show folks what we do with the money from fundraisers like this,” Glatz said. “It’s a chance to show off our programs and how much fun our patrons have, and it lets people know what is available to everyone who uses the library: books and DVds, of course, but also printing and faxing, crafts and activities, book club, as well as computers to use to search for jobs or to learn about family history with the Ancestry Library edition.”
Glatz said events like this provide a great opportunity for people to pick up “really fantastic and unique gifts for the holiday season.” However, she stresses that one can have a great time at the craft show even if they do not shop.
“While a person can wander around and do some shopping, they can also sit down with friends and have a hot meal and good conversation,” she said. “Who couldn’t use more of that?”
