‘Diet’ Kicks Off: Road Redesign Project Underway In City

A redesign project that will include a “road diet” along Washington Street in Jamestown has kicked off. Hundreds of safety drums have been installed for the rehabilitation, which will include turning four lanes of traffic into three from Fluvanna Avenue to Second Street. The new lane configuration will result in the creation of a two-way, left-turn lane. The project also includes resurfacing and the installation of new crosswalks and pedestrian lights. Work is expected to continue through most of the summer, the state Department of Transportation has said. P-J photo by Dennis Phillips
