WACS Eyes New Windows Installation

Despite delays caused by manufacturer distribution problems, it is still possible that new windows can be installed in Westfield Academy and Central School before the start of the school year, school board members learned recently.

The new windows, which fall under the capital improvement project, are part of the window replacement cycle, Michael Cipolla, district superintendent, told board members.

“The windows were supposed to be installed this summer,” he said. “If we receive them by August 6, the contractors can install the windows before school begins.”

Cipolla noted, however, that a delivery date of Aug. 6 is the best case scenario because the manufacturer has experienced distribution problems. If they do not come in by that date, contractors will have to work evenings and third shift, Cipolla said.

In other areas of the capital improvement, “everything is going well,” Cipolla said. The board approved several change orders for the capital improvement project, and one, as part of the capital outlay project.

The change orders include $11,748 to abate roof drains that were discovered to be insulated with ACM pipe insulation; $8,062 to install additional structural steel for the kitchen; $9,567 to remove the kitchen ceiling and install new ceiling grid and tile; $8,306 to remove existing ceiling in Room 181 and install new grid and tiles; and $5,590 as part of the capital outlay project, to remove existing drinking fountains and install water bottle fillers at priority locations.

Starting at $3.50/week.
