STOW — Visitors to the newly finished North Harmony municipal building at 5388 Stow Road will now have the opportunity to catch up on some reading.

Thanks to the work of the North Harmony Senior Citizens, the building entrance now includes a free library box.

“We placed the box (Sunday) in front of the new town office on Stow Road,” said Barbara Cheney, who helped organize the project. “It is a national organization, online at littlefreelibrary.org. We are chartered, we registered with them so we have a charter number and everything.”

Little Free Library is a national not-for-profit that recently celebrated its 100,000th book-sharing box.

Users can drop off and pick up books at the free library locations, and the organization also provides a map of boxes that can be found around the country.

The Harmony Senior Citizens conceived of the project around a year ago, working with Little Free Library to charter the box while member Chuck Ellis took care of the construction.

Coordinating the project with Cheney was member Fanchon Adams.

“She’s a retired librarian, so it was very important to her to be able to continue this,” Cheney said. “We have a beautiful sign on the front of it, and the sign was donated by Lynn Trathen, owner of Lakeside Custom Apparel.”

Helping to get the library up-and-running was a donation of children’s books from the Lakewood Memorial Library.

Starting at $3.50/week.
