Cipolla Named Westfield Super

WESTFIELD — Westfield Academy and Central School District Board of Education formally appointed a new superintendent, Michael Cipolla, during its supplemental meeting Monday.

Cipolla will officially begin his duties on Jan 1, taking over for David Davison, who will retire at the end of this year. During the meeting, the board also accepted Davison’s retirement with regret and “with great appreciation.”

Cipolla has been an educator for 15 years. He comes to Westfield from Randolph School District where he has served as director of instruction and operations for the past two and a half years. His duties included overseeing curriculum, transportation, facilities and food services.

Prior to his position at Randolph, Cipolla served as secondary principal in the Southwestern Central School District for eight years. He also served as assistant principal and school counselor in that district for several years before becoming principal.

“I’m excited to be part of the Westfield community,” Cipolla said. “Throughout my district research and interview process, I’ve met many good people who take pride in doing what’s best for the students.”

Cipolla said his No. 1 priority upon becoming superintendent will be to get to know the school community. “I need to learn a lot more,” he said. “Listen and learn will be my motto.”

Having lived in Chautauqua County for many years, he said he was always fond of the Westfield community and the involvement that teachers and staff have in the lives of the students.

“I like the pride of the community here,” he said. “A smaller district allows us to do greater things for our children.”

Steve Cockram, WACS board president, said he felt Cipolla was a “great fit” for Westfield.

“He has a personality that will work well with our teachers, staff and administrators. He really connected with our student stakeholder committee and is looking forward to working with them,” he said.

In addition to his academic work, Cipolla has coached many sports and served as a member of the Section VI Athletic Council. He received a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in counseling from St Bonaventure University.

Cipolla lives in the Lakewood-Busti area with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children.

Starting at $3.50/week.
