Marilyn Grace Howder

Marilyn Grace Howder, 86, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at Forest Glen Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 24, 1939, in Buffalo, New York the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Davies) Howder.

Marilyn earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Houghton College and later completed her master’s degree at the University at Buffalo. Marilyn dedicated more than 30 years to teaching fifth grade in Frewsburg, New York, where she loved educating young minds.

Marilyn’s life was centered around her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Jamestown, New York for most of her adult life. She was the treasurer for many years, helped in Daily Vacation Bible school, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was very involved in Pioneer Girls. She was always willing to help out where needed. She also volunteered for years with Bethany Camp in Sinclairville, New York where she served in several different roles but especially enjoyed being a lifeguard.

After retiring, Marilyn split her time between her home in New York and Delray Beach, Florida, and in 2018, she moved to Ohio to be closer to family. She was a proud aunt who treasured time with her family and was a kind, loyal, and encouraging friend to many.

Marilyn is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Esther Howder; her niece and nephew, Penelope Howder and Scott (Janet) Howder; great-nieces and nephews, Benjamin (Abby) Howder, Rebecca Howder, Elijah (Skyeler) Howder, Josiah Howder, Abraham Howder, Ezekiel Howder, Gideon Howder and Hadassah Howder; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents.
