Concert Series In Falconer Turns 30

In 1989, Falconer Mayor Albert Mattison approached the Falconer Public Library’s board of directors and asked if they would be interested in sponsoring a local concert series.

That summer, the Falconer Public Library, along with library director Sue Seamans, the Falconer Kiwanis Club and Falconer Central School band/music teacher, Ralph Rasmusson hosted several concerts in Davis Park every Thursday in July from 7-9 p.m.

On July 25, the Falconer community celebrated the concert series’ 30th anniversary with a special anniversary concert featuring the Pearl City Jazz Band, conducted by Rasmusson.

“For 30 years the Kiwanis Club, Falconer Public Library board and staff, and Village of Falconer Board have worked together to keep the concerts an integral part of our community,” Seamans said.

In recent years, support from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation has helped defray some of the costs associated with bringing bands to the park.

“This (concert series) is an incredible example of what an idea and community sponsorship can accomplish,” Seamans said.
