Shakespeare will return to the Goranson Band Shell this summer.

On Wednesday, city officials released the Summer Performance Series schedule at the band shell in Allen Park.

There will be eight musical performances, which starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday with the Jamestown High School Concert Band under the direction of Meghan Murray. There will also be a musical performance by Pearl City Jazz Wednesday, June 19, and the Jamestown Municipal Band, who will perform the rest of the concert series starting Wednesday, July 3.

Along with the musical performances, the Chautauqua Theater Company will be returning with Shakespeare at Allen Park with a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Wednesday, June 26.

Also, there will be a performance on the Greater Jamestown Riverwalk at Panzarella Park, which is slated for Saturday, July 13.

“The Chautauqua Theater Company is thrilled to continue our partnership with the city of Jamestown’s summer bandshell performance series and to expand performances to include the riverwalk,” said Andrew Borba, Chautauqua Theater Company artistic director.

“We are also ecstatic to again have the Allen Park Women’s Club support and are already ‘Midsummer’ dreaming of their fudge.”

The Jamestown Municipal Band has performed at Allen Park since the 1950s, with musical events being held annually at its current venue since the construction of the Goranson Bandshell in 1966.

In addition to funding provided by the city of Jamestown, these performances are made available free to the public through the support of the following: Allen Park Women’s Club, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation; Chautauqua Theater Company; Fessenden, Laumer & DeAngelo; Lind Funeral Home; American Federation of Musicians Local 134; Scandinavian studies program; Salon 1; The Resource Center; The United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County projects pool grant program; and UPMC Chautauqua.

The Allen Park Women’s Club will continue its tradition of providing coffee, fudge and other baked goods during the performances.

Proceeds from the concession sales will once again be donated by the club for maintenance and improvements to Allen Park.

All performances are free to the public and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets or park their vehicle close by to listen to the music.
