A childcare center in Mayville and an area college are getting millions of dollars to expand daycare. On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more than $106 million in awards through the Childcare Capital Construction Funding Program to support 37 projects that will create and expand access to quality childcare across New York State. Among those awarded funds were Chautauqua Lake Child Care Center, which was awarded $4,734,578 and Jamestown Community College, which was awarded $2,895,600. New Yorkers are being urged to prepare for a period of extreme heat starting Tuesday with "feels-like" temperatures expected to reach the 90s and low 100s across Western New York, and the high 80s to low 90s in eastern parts of the state and New York City. County offers statement as altercation under investigation

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County has issued a statement regarding an incident Thursday at the clerk's office. According to the news release, a self-described First Amendment auditor visiting the Chautauqua County Clerk's Office was involved in an altercation with a non-county employee in the records room. Building security and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident. No county employees were involved in the altercation.
