The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education accepted the resignation of Dr. Rosemary Bradley, Jamestown High School principal, who was the subject of a November vote of no confidence among employees.

The resignation is effective Jan. 31, 2020; Dana Williams, JHS assistant principal, has been appointed interim principal through June 30, 2020, while Allyson Smith has been appointed JHS dean of students.

The board held a special meeting that began at 7 a.m. After an executive session, board members accepted Bradley’s resignation.

“We thank Dr. Bradley for her service at Jamestown High School and wish her well in her professional journey,” Dr. Bret Apthorpe, superintendent, said in a statement. “Mr. Williams’ leadership experience in our district and at JHS will help guide the school forward during this transition time until a new principal can be appointed.”

Bradley served in the role since July and previously was an assistant principal at BOCES in Sullivan County.

The resignation comes after Bradley was the focal point of criticism following a Nov. 6 fight among high school students that forced an emergency lockdown.

Subsequently, several unions voted no confidence in Bradley. Jamestown Teachers Association President Stephanie Sardi said the fight was the “tipping point.”

Criticism was also heard from community members, teachers, students and parents at a Parent Teachers Association Student Association meeting Nov. 12 and at a board meeting Dec. 3 that saw more than 100 people in attendance at each.
