Meredith Cherry, a California resident on a cross-country mission to raise awareness of domestic violence, visited Jamestown this morning.

Cherry stopped to talk at the Salvation Army. She and her horse Apollo have visited 29 states thus far in their goal to travel the lower 48 in four years.

The campaign, “Centauride: Riding for Domestic Violence Awareness,” involves riding 10 to 15 miles and speaking to various groups and domestic violence shelters.

“This is an issue that was important to me,” Cherry told The Post-Journal last week. “Domestic violence awareness is a cause that matters to me.”

During her venture, Cherry has stayed with countless strangers who have provided places to sleep for her and Apollo. Many learn of the pair’s journey on social media before offering their homes and barns at future stops.
