No one was injured when several shots rang out Friday afternoon in the city of Jamestown.

Police said the incident began when an altercation occurred on West Eighth at Cherry streets around 2 p.m. During the fight, two people reportedly pulled out guns with one firing toward a nearby home.

Multiple shots were fired in the incident, though no one was struck, the Jamestown Police Department said Friday afternoon in a press release.

Afterward the shooter ran north on Cherry Street toward Ninth Street.

“We are continuing to investigate this but are looking for a cooperative witness that has valid information on the actual shooting situation that occurred,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department.

Samuelson said police were having a difficult time finding a cooperative witness or victim, “which makes this very difficult for us to proceed to prosecute.” He said police were reviewing video surveillance taken as well as interviewing people who were in the area at the time.

“This is an unfortunate situation that we are facing today with people afraid to cooperate and to come forward with information when they have it,” Samuelson said.

The Jamestown Police Department can be reached at 483-TIPS (8477) or through the Tips 411 cellphone app.
