Marvin House Event To Commemorate Air Pioneer

The Elizabeth Warner Marvin House is set to commemorate its 75th anniversary during Women’s History Month with a special luncheon event that highlights the life and achievements of aviation pioneer Lucile M. Wright.

The luncheon is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, beginning at noon at the Marvin House, 2 W. Fifth St., Jamestown. Dennis Webster, curator of the Lucile M. Wright Air Museum, will serve as the event’s featured presenter.

Lucile M. Wright logged over 5 million miles on commercial flights. During World War II, she distinguished herself as the only woman courier pilot in Western New York, serving with the Civil Air Patrol Program and transporting essential machine parts and defense personnel.

Wright devoted her life to the advancement of aviation and the empowerment of women pilots. She was honored three times with the Amelia Earhart Medal and was named Woman of the Year in Aviation by the National Aeronautical Society in 1965.

Wright also supported airport development, promoted aviation-friendly legislation, and established scholarship programs to inspire and assist the next generation of aviators.

“The story of Lucile M. Wright is one of vision, courage, and leadership,” Webster said. “She not only excelled in her own career but also uplifted others by encouraging young people–especially women–to pursue their dreams in aviation.”

The mission of the Lucile M. Wright Air Museum is to foster an interest in aviation among youth, preserve the region’s aviation history, and honor Wright’s legacy.

The celebration luncheon menu will include: grilled ham and swiss on sourdough, potato leek soup, coffee, tea and vanilla ice cream with creme de menthe and pistachios.

After the meal, guests will be treated to the presentation by Webster.
