Humane Society To Host St. Pawtrick’s Campaign

The Chautauqua County Humane Society is launching its St. Pawtrick’s campaign throughout the month of March, focusing on the dogs and cats who could use a little extra luck to find their homes.

The campaign will focus on the animals who have been at the shelter for the longest, pets who simply haven’t had the right match yet, despite being ready for adoption.

The Humane Society operates a year-round long stay adoption program that waives the adoption fee for qualifying animals. St. Pawtrick’s is not a temporary promotion; it is a focused effort to bring attention to these pets and encourage the community to meet them. Standard adoption practices and procedures apply.

Throughout March, CCHS encourages folks to visit the shelter, meet the long stay dogs and cats, and learn their stories. Increased visibility and interaction help these animals connect with potential adopters. One of the animals Humane Society officials are encouraging area residents to meet is a dog named Ozzy.

Ozzy is a 14-year-old senior with a gentle, steady presence and a personality that’s all his own. His eyesight and hearing have slowed with age, but his sense of smell is as sharp as ever, and he approaches life with quiet confidence. What he wants most is comfort: a warm bed, a predictable routine, and a person who understands that not every dog shows love the same way. After losing his owner and making a long journey from Louisiana, he’s been waiting far too long for someone to notice the sweet soul he is. Ozzy doesn’t need much, just a soft place to land and a human who appreciates a calm companion.

As part of the St. Pawtrick’s effort, CCHS will also host an offsite adoption event, Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Runnings, 720 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown. Adoptable pets will be on site for the public to meet.
