Mayville Senior Citizens To Meet Jan. 15
MAYVILLE – The Mayville Senior Citizens met recently with 35 members and three guests attending for a ham dinner.
The ham was prepared by Darlene Harper. Devotional Chair Dianne Goodrich told a few short stories. She then led us in the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge to Allegiance. Robin Carr, president, called the meeting to order.
Members sang happy birthday to those who had birthdays in November and December–16 in total. They were Fred Himes; Linda Martin; Betty Lou Cheney; Ernest Farver; Diane Petrucci; Gwen Thorp; John Weise; Richard Westpfahl; David Thorp for November. For December–Fran Miller; Sharyn Giardina; Karen Hurlburt; Carol Bisbee; Sharon Plucinski; Wanda Gustafson; and Christine Kroll.
Dianne Goodrich installed the 2026 officers: Robin Carr (President), Linda Anderson (First VP), Darlene Harper (Second VP), Darlene Barney (Secretary), Janet Loomis (Assistant Secretary), Kathie Sukalac (Treasurer), and Fran Miller (Assistant Treasurer).
Darlene Barney read the secretary’s report. Sandi Light made a motion to approve the minutes, which Kathie Sukalac seconded; carried. Mary Carlson sent a handmade Christmas card, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and expressing regret that she missed our ham dinner.
The treasurer’s report was given by Kathie Sukalac. Carr mentioned that the Senior Council would be sending Becky Blum to the convention in Saratoga Springs. The Bethlehem, Pa., trip was canceled. Carr is working on a trip for the end of May.
Linda Anderson sent out one get well card and five birthday cards so far for December (there will be a total of seven).
Bill Tornstrom said that Pat Cook will provide entertainment at the January meeting.
The kitchen committee was Bonnie J. Johnson, Karen Heston and Dolly Gilbert. Gilbert also supplied the table favors. A motion was made by Margie Weise for the club to send a donation to the library in memory of lifelong member Janice Weitz; seconded by Darlene Barney; carried
Guests Valerie Polloni, Jim Hurley and Penny Rossey were welcomed.
There were 25 donated door prizes so almost everyone at the meeting won something. Linda Anderson won the lottery, member Becky Dalziel contributed a nativity scene and various Christmas figurines for a club giveaway with nine members winning.
The next meeting will be Jan. 15 for a pot luck luncheon. Those attending should bring a dish to pass. Members will sign up for the soup and sandwich luncheon in February.
