Costume Designer Speaks To Norden Women’s Club
Parrish Kennington, costume designer, shows pictures from the movie sets of which she has most recently worked as she gives a presentation during a recent Norden Women’s Club meeting.
The Norden Women’s Club recently met at the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club for a member-guest luncheon with 43 members and two guests attending.
Hostesses were Dottie Larson and Susie Westrom. The slate of officers for 2026-27 was presented and approved: Brenda Fitzgerald, president; Maria Malmstrom, first vice president; Marla Oste, second vice president; Shirley Swenson, recording secretary; Birgitta Hofert, corresponding secretary; Karen Sowa, treasurer; Nancy Jones, membership chair; and Cindi Sorsenson and Karen Bjorkholm Leeper, Nominating Committee members. In addition; Lisa Johnson, Barbara Anderson, and Mary Beth Johnson were elected as one-year directors. Gretchen Beckstrom and Yvonne McNallie were elected as two-year directors.
Mary Lausterer was introduced as a new member and was presented with the traditional yellow rose.
The speaker was Parrish Kennington, costume designer. She discussed with members stories about her work behind the scenes of movies. Kennington has the largest trailer on the set, being full of costumes. Every item the actors wear must be available as three identical sets and more if there are stunts involved. She is responsible for making sure the clothes are worn and look identical in multiple scenes. Pictures from the movie sets were shown, especially from her recent movies; the Walking Dead series and American Primeval. She has also worked on Ant-Man in 2018, Spider Man: Homecoming in 2017, and R.I.P.D. in 2013.
The next general meeting of the Norden Women’s Club will be held in August.
