Silver Winds Flute Choir Performs For Mozart Club
The members of the Mozart Club were treated to an afternoon of music by the Silver Winds Flute Choir recently.
The flute choir is an ensemble consisting of 10 flutists from the Warren County area and beyond, eight of whom performed for the Mozart Club.
The musicians are skilled amateurs, professionals, and teachers all sharing a love of flute music. They have performed for such diverse groups as the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, the flute choir of Atlanta, the salon series at the Jamestown, Unitarian Universalist Church, and at senior citizen centers.
The program for the Mozart Club consisted of popular pieces such as “White Coral Bells”; “Morning Has Broken”; “Hedwig’s Theme ” from the Harry Potter movies by John Williams and “Funeral March fora Marionette “by Gounod.
A unique piece was called “Railroaded” by Nicole Chamberlain. The sounds of the steam on taking off by the train, the train whistle, the chugging along and the final blast of steam as it stopped , made for a highly original and entertaining experience. Chamberlain is known for her work with extended techniques, such as beatboxing and pitchbending to create vivid train – like sounds for the flute.
The program concluded with the beautiful ” Dona Nobis Pacem” , ( Give Us Peace) , which is a traditional short prayer from the Agnus Dei of the Latin mass.
The next meeting of the Mozart club will be on Wednesday, Nov. 12, with a board meeting at noon and a musical program by the Musical Herdzik Family at 1:30 p.m.
