Fall Events Scheduled In South Dayton Saturday
SOUTH DAYTON – The South Dayton Depot Rail & Movie Museum, which is part of the Amish Trail, will host four hours of events Saturday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In the past the depot has hosted a vintage car show. This year whatever those interested in visiting the museum have to drive, the depot will host a “Drive What You Got” show with prizes to be awarded. Parking is across the street from the depot. A trunk or treat will be set up close to the village square while the Farmers’ Market will have all kinds of baked goods, breads, home made cloth bags, aprons, vegetables, fruits and jams. The Amish Trail special will be a $5 pumpkin pie, along with experienced cooking advice.
For lunch, hot dogs, chips and a cold soft drink will be available while the Mazing Dessert Food Truck will be set up with funnel cakes, frozen dipped cheesecake and cold soft drinks.
Walker’s Creekside Alpaca Farm will be on the Village Square with mama and baby Alpacas. Lacey’s Petting Zoo will be set up next to the South Dayton Fire Department’s Driveway. Amy’s Hand Painted Gnomes will be on the Village Square with all size gnomes and the village library will have a unique book craft for a $10 donation.
The Library has an ongoing book sale including puzzles, framed puzzles. Peg VanWormer, Terry Rogers, members of Friends of the Depot, will encourage adults and children to paint rocks making a Fall leaf print (maple leaves from the Village Square), decoupage a picture on wooden plaques made by Cherry Creek Woodcraft. There is no charge for these two activities.
Those attending can also tour the Depot Rail and Movie Museum, take selfie pictures next to the ticket window used in “The Natural” and “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”, sit in the Redford Chair, and go back in history with original writings on the wall. On display, view the necessary shipping, receiving documents, and forms used by former Station Agent William Neubeck, whose career years were 1948 to 1980.
The New York & Lake Erie Train will arrive at 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Along with the Depot Rail and Movie Museum sponsoring this event are the Farmers’ Market, Austin Milling, and Mmm.Mazing.
