BUSTI – Artwork created by Dan Weisbrod will be on display throughout September at the Hazeltine Library in Busti.
Weisbrod is a local resident and graduate of Southwestern Central School who said he has always been drawn to art.
“I can remember being about 3 years old and using crayons in my older brothers’ coloring book and making designs my mother would call ‘masterpieces,'” Weisbrod said. “My brother left his supplies behind when he went to college and I started to experiment with oils and now I work with them as well as tempura, watercolor and acrylics.”
After high school he spent time in Florida, studied drawing, history of art, interior design and advertising and design at the University of Florida, Gainesville and the University of Dayton, Fla., before returning to the area and working in retail until retirement.
“Work took a lot of time and energy so I didn’t do much painting and creating; about 2019 I started the process again and have added new pieces to my collection. Some of them are from my imagination, some from photos and some are a combination. I’ve done some pet photos for friends and a few works that display family members and friends I’ve made along the way,” Weisbrod said when asked more about his creations.
“They really brighten up the art wall we have at Hazeltine,” said library director Katie Smith. “There’s so many different mediums and subjects on display, I encourage people to stop and take a look. It’s amazing the talent we have in our own backyard!”
