Jamestown YMCA To Celebrate Healthy Kids Day

On Friday, the Jamestown YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day with a free community event for kids and families. Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, features games, contests, giveaways, activities, healthy snacks and more to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.

Joining the YMCA for Healthy Kids Day are NY State of Health, James Prendergast Library, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of Western NY, Chautauqua Striders, Prevention Works/HOPE Chautauqua Coalition, JCC Nursing Department, Jamestown Police Department, Audubon Community Nature Center, Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene, Chautauqua Tapestry Resilience Initiative, Chautauqua Safety Village, Chautauqua Opportunities INC., and Chautauqua Child Care Council.

The event will focus on health and education to ensure fewer children are at an increased risk for childhood obesity and more children succeed in school. During summer, research shows that kids are more likely to gain weight and fall behind academically than during the school year. Healthy Kids Day is not just a single day of fun, active play, and learning — it’s a kickoff to helping parents get a jump on creating a healthier summer. Summer day camp registrations will be open to the community on this date.

The Healthy Kids Day event takes place at the YMCA’s 101 E. Fourth St. location from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
