More than 9 pounds of fentanyl pills — valued at $500,000 — were recovered from a vehicle stopped as part of an investigation into narcotics trafficking.

The discovery occurred at noon Wednesday along North Main Street in Jamestown and shortly before a series of raids in the city and town of Ellicott.

In a news release, the Jamestown Police Department said surveillance of a vehicle traveling through the area resulted in the traffic stop, though police did not state if the driver was tied to warrants executed an hour later on Spring Street and West Cowden Place in the city and West Main Street in Falconer.

Inside the vehicle, investigators found about 50,000 to 60,000 fentanyl pills, with a street value of about a half-million dollars, as well as $3,000.

The driver, identified as a woman but not by name or age, was taken into custody and is now facing charges in federal court by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

K-9 Kal with the Jamestown Police Department and K-9 Drake with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office took part in the search of the vehicle.

An investigation into the large seizure was ongoing, the department said Thursday.
