JPS Board Of Education Names Tilburg, Higbee As Ex-Officio Student Members

The Jamestown Board of Education has named its two ex-officio student board members, Allison Tilburg and Megan Higbee, for the 2020-21 school year.

Allison and Megan are seniors at Jamestown High School and the co-historians for Student Government. Their term began Nov. 3 and ends June 30, 2021.

“It is important that students know that they have a voice with the Board of Education. We had a very successful first two years with our student representatives,” said Paul Abbott, Jamestown Board of Education president. “I hope our student body continues to utilize this opportunity and supports Allison and Megan by giving them their suggestions and input. I also hope their presence sends a message to all students that they are welcome at any Board of Education meeting because they are the reason we do what we do.”

The new Student Board of Education representatives are very involved at JHS. Allison is a member of the JHS Marching Band, Concert Band, Key Club and Student Government. Allison plans to attend college and study genetics. Megan is a member of the JHS Marching Band, A Cappella, Concert Band, Key Club and Student Government. Megan also plans to attend college and study clinical psychology.

Both students are excited to start their term on the Board of Education.

“I think it is important for us, as students, to keep the Board of Education updated on what is happening at JHS and to have better communication between the JHS student body and the Board of Education,” said Allison.

“I hope to help foster collaboration between JHS students and the Board of Education. I also hope to help reflect what JHS students are thinking, directly to Board of Education members,” said Megan.
