Children Can Learn About Squirrels, Chipmunks Saturday

Did you know that both chipmunks and squirrels are squirrels?

It’s true.

Adults and the three- to eight-year-old children in their life are invited to Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers to learn more about “Chipmunks and Squirrels” on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Chipmunks and squirrels scurry everywhere from backyards to deep in the forest, but people often confuse them with one another. Little Explorers will help teach how to tell the two squirrels apart and what their lives are like as the seasons change from winter into spring.

After a short lesson, those attending can take a hike outdoors where they can think like a chipmunk and a squirrel to find food, avoid predators, and look for nesting materials and spots.

There will be a snack after the hike and a craft if there is time.

Little Explorers takes place regardless of the weather, so those attending should be sure to dress for whatever it is.

The fee for the program is $8 for adults, $6 for Nature Center members and children. Reservations are required by Thursday, March 12, by calling 569-2345 during business hours or going to AudubonCNC.org/Programs and clicking on “Current Schedule.”

Little Explorers is presented on the second Saturday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Audubon.

The program is sponsored by Univera Healthcare.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren.
