CMP’s Children’s Music Studio To Begin Season

The Community Music Project’s Children’s Music Studio will begin classes the week of Sept. 16.

Classes are held from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Thursdays at Warner Place at the Lutheran Campus, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, or starting at 9:30 a.m. Fridays at First Presbyterian Church, Jamestown.

The Children’s Music Studio has been in operation in Jamestown since 1997 offering music and movement classes for families with children ages birth to age 5.

The teachers, Susan Caster and Danica Olson, make use of the Musikgarten curriculum, which uses songs, stories, poems and musical games to build musical literacy skills.

The once-a-week 30-45 minutes classes are attended by a caregiver with the young child (birth to three) and the caregiver acts as a model for the child.

Beginning with singing, moving and exploring rhythm instruments, the sessions add levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding the singing repertoire, teaching more complex dances and building instrumental ensembles

The Community Music Project Inc., founded in 1982, is a not-for-profit arts organization in Jamestown that focuses on music education and performance for adults and children throughout the Western New York area. Its ensembles give between five and seven concerts a year and are admission-free.

Children’s Music Studio classes run from September through December and January through May.
