Audubon To Hold Enchanted Forest In October

This human-sized Spring Peeper will be one of several creatures that greet visitors and share stories along the trails at Audubon Community Nature Center's Enchanted Forest. Spots fill up quickly, so make your reservations now for this delightful event on Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 4 and 5.

Reservations are being accepted for the Enchanted Forest, the Audubon Community Nature Center’s non-scary Halloween event.

Even with spaces for more than 500 children and their adults, it can be expected to sell out. The Enchanted Forest is held Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 4 and 5, and begins with stories and songs at a backyard campfire. Then volunteer “fireflies” light the way with lanterns along a luminary-lit trail where children and adults will meet talking animals. Human-sized animals engage the imagination, maybe make people laugh and teach about wildlife in the region. There will be stories from a red fox, praying mantis, bat, pileated woodpecker, spring peeper, and garter snake.

After about a 45-minute walk, those attending can explore the Nature Center, do crafts provided by Michaels and have snacks inside.

Participants are reminded to dress for the weather. Long pants, long sleeve shirts, close-toed shoes and insect repellent are recommended.

Walks start at 6 p.m. and go out every 10 minutes. The last walk starts at 8 p.m. Sunset is 6:45 p.m. Pre-payment is required and reserves a specific time. Enrollment is limited, and the program takes place rain or shine. There are no ticket sales at the door and no refunds. The fee is $12, $9 for Nature Center members, $6 for children ages 3-15, and free for children two and under. To reserve a spot, call 569-2345 during business hours or visit AudubonCNC.org/EnchantedForest.

Scouts and others can earn a fun patch by visiting the Courtesy Desk for a list of requirements. After completing at least four of the activities, the fun patch can be purchased on a first-come first-served basis for $3.

The Enchanted Forest is presented through the efforts of many volunteers, some of whom are registered with RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. For more information about volunteering, visit AudubonCNC.org/Volunteer.
