Cassadaga Students To Hold Fair Promoting Sustainability

Students at Cassadaga Valley Central School are hoping to promote community sustainability with a vendor and craft fair on Saturday. The event, hosted by the Class 2018, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cassadaga Valley Middle-High School, 5935 Route 60 in Cassadaga.

According to Danyal Dahl, 2018 class advisor, said students wished to give back to alumni and the community.

“They have had a vision to use local vendors, when applicable, choosing Cassadaga Valley graduates and local businesses in order to sustain their community,” Dahl said. “They chose to shop locally for fundraisers, using and highlighting local businesses to create our items for fundraising.”

Students also worked to keep its prom local at Cassadaga Red House, which is owned and operated by Cassadaga Valley alumni. In addition, all the food was prepared by alumni, as was photography and music.

To culminate its local sustainability efforts, students decided to put on the vendor/craft show that will feature alumni, community members and area businesses.

“These students have learned so much about sustaining their community by shopping local, supporting graduates and doing business with local shops,” Dahl said. “We think that the message that they send could have a positive impact on the community.”

More than 30 vendors, many of whom are Cassadaga Valley grads, as well as local residents are scheduled to be at the event. Donations are $3 for admission; children’s admission includes four activity tickets.
