MAYVILLE — A team of Special Education students at Chautauqua Lake Central School recently were the overall winner of the Sumdog Erie-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Math Contest. One student from the class also took first place in the individual contest.

Sumdog is a scientifically proven educational resource that provides online games that make learning fun. In total, 78 students answered 12,222 questions correctly.

Teacher Angela Williams’ 2016-2017 class, which includes students in fifth grade through seventh grade, had a score of 270.

The CLCS team bested two teams from Panama Central School, which came in second and third places, respectively, with scores of 220 and 179.

CLCS student Tysean Mays won first place in the individual contest with 920 points. Two students from the Panama district placed second and third with scores of 812 and 719, respectively. Supervisor of Instructional Programs Una Raimondo offered a hearty congratulations to Williams and her class.

As a reward, Williams’ class received access to dozens of Sumdog’s online games. They are looking forward to competing — and winning — next year.
