Harley-Davidson ‘Artful Bra Showcase’ To Display At LINKS Pink Walk
Harley-Davidson of Jamestown Inc. and The Lady Riders of the Southern Tier’s “Artful Bra Showcase” will be on public display at the fourth annual LINKS Pink Walk: A Celebration of Courage presented by Jamestown Radiologists, Medline, and Univera Healthcare Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Chautauqua Mall. The decorated bra showcase expresses the creativity of Harley-Davidson of Jamestown employees and customers, The Lady Riders of the Southern Tier, V.I.E. For Fitness, and Chautauqua Adult Daycare, which all decorated bras for the V-Twins for the Twins event with the goal of raising awareness and funds toward local breast cancer care.
The “Artful Bra Showcase” was part of a motorcycle benefit ride, held recently at Harley-Davidson of Jamestown.
“Our V-Twins for the Twins Ride was the first dealership-sponsored ride we have hosted in a number of years so we really wanted to make it a big deal and create a multi-level occasion,” said Megan Arnone, marketing manager for Harley-Davidson of Jamestown. “Our event offered something truly unique for those who do not traditionally ride a motorcycle and those who may have been discouraged from riding due to the inclement weather in October. It was a perfect opportunity for us to host a fun, out-of-the-box affair that supports an especially important cause.”
The public is invited to stop by the Harley-Davidson of Jamestown dealership in Falconer, where the gallery of bras will be on display through Oct. 30 to vote for your favorite decorated bra. The winning artist will receive a gift basket from Victoria’s Secret, and a pair of beautiful Harley-Davidson sterling silver and garnet earrings will go to the runner-up. Each vote is a $1 donation toward 3-D mammography technology at WCA.
3-D Breast Tomosynthesis is a breakthrough in mammography that uses advanced imaging technology to produce 3-D images of the breast and give physicians a revolutionary screening and diagnostic tool designed for early detection of breast cancer that can be done in conjunction with traditional digital mammography.
“We strongly believe that people deserve access to the best care and the best technology available,” Arnone said. “We chose WCA Hospital as the benefactor of our funds because we wanted to be sure the money stays local to help those who need us right here in our hometown.”
The public can view the “Artful Bra Showcase” during LINKS Pink Walk on Nov. 1. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with registration and many family-friendly activities including face painting, coloring table for children, pink nails, pink lemonade, pink cupcakes, pink cake pops, a fabulous basket raffle and more. A beautiful, hand-sewn breast cancer quilt created by area resident, Barb Greene will be raffled off. At 10:45 a.m., LINKS Charity will pay tribute to the courage of all those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, including a personal patient testimonial by Jenny Rader and video message from breast cancer survivor, Marissa Troxell, will be viewed on a large screen in center court.
At 11 a.m., the walk will begin and be led by breast cancer survivors as all walkers will carry the LINKS Tribute Chain, a chain featuring thousands of pink links that have been purchased ($1 donation) in honor or in memory of loved ones who are or have faced breast cancer. Donations for these pink links are available at supporting event businesses including, Bob Evans, Truck-Lite, Cummins, Rocky’s Family Karate, Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union branches, AFFINITY ONE Credit Union on Second Street, the Chautauqua Mall, Jamestown Radiologists and WCA Hospital.
Following the walk, participants will form a human breast cancer ribbon in the mall parking lot. After the walk, attendees and event volunteers will be treated with a complimentary lunch by Bob Evans. At that time, attendees will continue to enjoy the pink-themed activities along with live music provided by EMPIRE Entertainment’s DJ.
Along with lunch, each registered walker ($10 per person) will receive a complimentary pink event T-shirt to wear during the walk. Walkers are encouraged to pre-register and join a team online at www.FirstGiving.com/wca/2014-links-Pink-Walk or register online at www.wcahospital.org or call Linda Johnson, WCA Hospital at 664-8614 for pre-registration forms and pledge sheets.
