A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently for Ballgame Heroes, located at 501 W. Third St., Jamestown.

Starr Ryder said he began collecting sports cards again in 2014, after having been out of the hobby for more than 20 years.

“Just like many other people, I collected as a child and young adult but got out of the hobby due to the card market becoming flooded with over production,” he said. “After becoming interested in the hobby again I realized how much I had to learn and how much it has changed since the ’90s when so many from my generation were avid collectors.”

Ryder said he attended his first National Sports Card Convention in 2014, not too long after being reintroduced to the hobby.

“It was a unique experience,” he said. “I learned so much about how cards died out after the ’90s boom and how the card industry recovered.”

He added: “My goal for my business venture is to bring a location for families to gather and learn all about how the hobby has changed and to create a location for card enthusiasts to buy and sell. From my years in the hobby, I have gathered contacts from around the county giving me the upper hand at being able to make a profit at buying and selling. Card buying and reselling for a profit will be the cornerstone of my business.”
