MD Electronics Celebrates Five Years, 10 Million Cable Assemblies
MD Electronics Corporation recently celebrated two milestones at its Mason Industrial Park facility: the 10 millionth cable assembly to roll off the production line and the fifth anniversary of operations startup in Jamestown.
The company, a subsidiary of MD ELEKTRONIK GmbH, located near Munich, Germany, supplies the North American automotive industry with data and communication cables for diverse applications including radios, navigation systems and cameras. Its products are sold to various manufacturers who assemble them into wiring harnesses for Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Since its inception in November 2009, MD Electronics has posted a continuous and rapid growth rate, most recently adding Mercedes-Benz as a customer and creating 65 new positions in 2014. The company now has 216 associates working in Jamestown. Besides manufacturing, local operations include sales, purchasing, human resources, quality and finance. Most of the design and development work is done in Germany. The company operates on a five- to six-day, 24-hour shift structure and processes 60 miles of cable per day.
“Five years in business has seemed on one hand like a long span of time, and on the other fairly short,” said Bruce Dudgeon, MD Electronics president. “Many companies in Jamestown are celebrating 75 or 100 years in business, so in that regard we are still considered relatively young. However, in five years we have had some really wonderful results. Adding over 40 jobs in each of the last four years has resulted in a strong and well-trained workforce ready for the challenges of supplying the automotive industry in North America. Our customers require top-notch quality and our employees have been able to meet that demand. MD is well situated to broaden our customer base and to increase our market share in North America.”
