County Legion Auxiliary To Meet
CELORON — The Chautauqua County American Legion Auxiliary Meeting will be hosted by Herman Kent Unit 777 on Thursday. Dessert at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7. Roll call will be taken from each Unit for 2026 Empire Girls State quotas. All units are encouraged to have a representative in attendance.
Frewsburg School Board To Gather Thursday
FREWSBURG – The Frewsburg Central School Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the middle-high school library. The public is welcome to attend.
Reg Lenna To Screen Downton Abbey Film
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, (Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.) the cinematic return of the global phenomenon, follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s. When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is rated PG and is 123 minutes long. . Upcoming Movies at The Reg include a documentary about the legendary Pittsburgh Pirate and humanitarian Clemente (Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.), a 40th anniversary of the 1985 murder-mystery/comedy Clue: The Movie (Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.), the supernatural horror film The Conjuring: Last Rites (Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.) Stephen King’s dystopian thriller, The Long Walk (Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.) and a 50th anniversary audience-participation showing of the 1975 cult classic musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Oct. 31 at 10 p.m.). Tickets for most Movies at The Reg are $8 in-person at the box office and $10 online (reglenna.com) and by phone at 716-484-7070. Family showings are $7 in-person at the box office and $9 online and by phone. Special engagements are priced differently. The theater and box office at The Reg are located at 116 E. Third St. in Jamestown. The box office is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and one hour before movies and events.
Little Explorers Focuses On Squirrels, Chipmunks
The Audubon Community Nature Center will host its next Little Explorers for children ages 3 to 8 and a guardian from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, with a focus on squirrels and chipmunks. Squirrels and chipmunks, a distinct species within the squirrel family, can be seen and heard scurrying everywhere from backyards to deep in the forest. Join Audubon to learn about the different members of the squirrel family, whether they are gray squirrels with fluffy tails or flying squirrels gliding from branch to branch. Figure out where these animals live and how they adapt as the seasons change. After a short hands-on lesson indoors exploring the body parts, diets, and homes of squirrels, chipmunks and groundhogs, it is time to bundle up and head outside where you can look for signs of squirrels, including tracks, nests, and their leftover food. A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time. Little Explorers takes place regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly. The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3-8 and Nature Center members. Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total. Cassadaga Post 1280 Auxiliary Holds Meeting
CASSADAGA – Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 members met recently with 14 members attending. For Americanism, it was announced that out of the more than 250 flags in the Cassadaga Legion flag program, 82 flags are sponsored by Unit 1280 members. The auxiliary’s Cruise Night bake sales went very well over the summer, as well as the Legion, Auxiliary and Sons chicken barbecues. Post 1280, Auxiliary and the Sons of the Legion participated in the Cassadaga Labor Day parade. The Unit recently held a funeral luncheon for a Unit 1280 member’s grandfather and veteran. Unit 1280 is making plans for their annual Vendor Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 25, handing out candy, books and crafts on Halloween, and a Veteran’s Day program in November is in the works. Members present voted to donate money to the local food pantries. The auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the post.
