Holds 100th Reunion

MAYVILLE – On Aug. 3, descendants of Jesse and Lona Rater celebrated 100 years of gatherings with a reunion at the Mayville park. Jesse was born in 1882 and Lona was also. They had a son, Lee and 7 daughters, Gertie, Mabel, Mary, Velma, Bernice, Gladys, and Nora. The reunion was attended by 35 people. Games were played, jokes read, children received gifts and a large delicious tureen dinner was enjoyed by all. Highlights of the day were an auction with lots of hassling and laughs and also dozens of old pictures of relatives were viewed and good times.

Auxiliary Meets

CASSADAGA – Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its summer “dish-to-share” get-together recently with 11 senior members attending. Prayer was given before dinner by Chaplain Paula Pattison. There was a variety of foods. A short informal meeting followed the dinner. It was reported that the auxiliary recently held two funeral luncheons for family members of Unit 1280. Unit 1280’s famous pie and dessert sales during the Son’s of the Legion Cruise Nights have gone well. The final sale will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the legion with a rain date of Aug. 27. Cassadaga’s National Night Out, August 6th, at the Johnny Fessenden baseball field was attended by auxiliary members as well as local, county and state first responders. Sally Lawson noted that Unit 1280 made 100% membership for 2025. She now has the Unit’s 2026 membership cards. Dues are $30. Upcoming events include the Cassadaga Labor Day Weekend celebration, in conjunction with the legion and the Sons of the Legion, with a take-out only chicken barbecue from noon until sold out on Sunday, Aug. 31, and a parade down Main Street, at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1. The next auxiliary meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Ellicott Town Board To

Hold Budget Workshops

The Ellicott Town Board will hold budget workshops on Sept. 2 and Sept. 11 in council chambers and will start at 5 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Randolph Board Of Education To Meet Sept. 3

RANDOLPH – The Randolph Central School District Board of Education will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m. in the high school library. The public is welcome to attend.

Harmony

Senior Citizens To Meet Sept. 4

The Harmony Senior Citizens will meet at noon Sept. 4 for a tureen dinner. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service. Hosts for the day include Bonnie Froman and Mary Sweeney. Mary Keeney discussed the need to purchase a coffee pot, preferably a 40-cup pot. Officers for the coming year will be installed. Yearly dues are due at the September meeting.
