Picnic August 16
LEON – The Leon Town Picnic will be held starting at noon Saturday, Aug. 16, with pickleball, cornhole, horseshoes, a wine and cheese basket giveaway, a 50-50 giveaway, door prizes, cards and Pennyroyal Racetrack memories. There will be a chicken barbecue, hot dogs and pie. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass. There will be a pie baking contest with a $25 prize for first place, $15 for second place and $10 for third place. The event is FREE for Leon Residents, past and present, as well as anyone connected to Leon, the Pennyroyal Racetrack, the Fire Company, Auxiliary, Historical Society, Town of Leon, Leon businesses and establishments. Donations are welcome and all proceeds go to the Leon Town Picnic Fund.
Audubon Shirt Fundraiser Orders Due
August 18
The Audubon Community Nature Center’s 2025 shirt fundraiser orders are due by Monday, August 18. This year’s “Bee Kind” design was inspired by Audubon’s exhibits and created by in-house designer Jessica Piskor. The center’s logo and location are on the back of the shirts. T-shirts come in a variety of adult sizes, in short and long sleeves, as well as youth sizes. There are also women’s cut short-sleeve tees and hooded sweatshirts in adult and youth sizes. XXLs are available for an additional charge. In addition to benefitting ACNC’s numerous nature education programs, your purchase also supports local business, as Pace Promotional Solutions prints the shirts. Lakewood To Feature Art By Terry Lair In August
LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library will host artwork by Terry Lair in August, with an opening reception scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. Lair went to college for the first time at age 48 and earned a Fine Arts degree and Bachelor’s degree in Art and Wellness. She works as an art instructor at Aspire of Western New York where she teaches art to people with physical and developmental disabilities. She is a member of the North Shore Arts Alliance and was one of the featured artists at the 2024 Roger Tory Peterson Institute Plein Air Exhibition. She was also one of the juror artists in their Broken Nature exhibition. She has been featured in several small shows throughout the area, sometimes as a group exhibit with NSAA and sometimes solo. She creates in many mediums but her preference is pastel and charcoal. Lair lives in a cabin in the woods thus the name of her business Cabin Clutter Creations.
Stockton Library To Host Ice Cream Social Aug. 23
STOCKTON – The Mary E Seymour Memorial Library’s Stockton branch will host an ice cream social from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. The free community event features ice cream cones and sundaes.
