Salvation Army To Ring Bells July 30-31

The Salvation Army will be ringing the bells on Wednesday and Thursday, July 29-30. The Salvation Army Food Pantry has been hit hard this year with more and more people needing food and a shortage of money because of the Christmas Campaign, Feedmore’s loss of valuable USDA funding and the decrease of funding from local partners due to the fact there are more agencies requesting funding. Salvation Army officials are trying to raise money to be able to care for people who are struggling to make ends meet.

Audubon To Host Little Explorers Saturday

Adults and their favorite 3 to 8-year-old(s) are invited to join Audubon Community Nature Center Little Explorers from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, to study “Nature in Color, Pattern, and Texture.” The session is an opportunity to discover the reasons behind some of these vibrant colors of summer, keep an eye out for camouflaging animals, identify the many different shapes and patterns hiding in fields and forests, and decide why plants and animals have certain textures. After a short indoor lesson, head outside to spot some of the colors and patterns found in nature. Learn more about the ways plants and animals use these colors and patterns to survive, find mates, or attract pollinators. Take a look at the spirals on the bottom of a pinecone, search for spider webs, and find shapes and colors in the trees and flowers. A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time. Little Explorers takes place regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly. The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3-8 and Nature Center members. Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total. To make your paid reservations required by Thursday, Aug. 7, call 716-569-2345 during business hours or go online to AudubonCNC.org/events.

Starting at $3.50/week.
