Marvin House To Hold Annual Meeting August 5

All members of the Marvin Community House are invited to the annual meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 4 p.m. at the Marvin House, 2 W. Fifth St., Jamestown. Agenda time is set aside to begin plans for the 2026 celebration marking the 75th anniversary of Elizabeth Marvin’s gift of the clubhouse to the women of the area.

Lakewood Library To Host Author Destiny Kinal Aug. 7

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library will host a meet the author event featuring Destiny Kinal at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, as she shares insights and readings from her Textile Trilogy: Burning Silk, Linen Shroud, and Oil & Water. With 24 years of writing and reflection, Kinal explores themes of matrilineality, utopian communities, the Arts and Crafts movement, natural dyes, and reimagining the future beyond the petroleum age. Proceeds from any book sales will benefit the Lakewood Memorial Library.

County’s 3% Tourism

Development Grant Program

Applications are being accepted for the county’s 3% Occupancy Tax Tourism Product Development Grant Program.

County officials are looking for projects that can help attract more visitors – especially overnight guests. The Tourism Product Development Grant Program is funded through the county’s 5% Occupancy Tax which is generated from the rental of lodging units within the county. Awards of up to $20,000 with a 1:1 match will be determined based on a project application, review, and ranking process. Applications are accepted online annually between July 1 and Oct. 1 for funding the following year. Grant requests must be developmental in nature, and are not intended for facility maintenance or long-term operational costs. New or substantially updated initiatives are encouraged to apply. There is a three-year lifetime limit of funding for a single project. Applications will only be available online through the Planning and Development website: planningchautauqua.com. Hard copies of the application will not be accepted. Applications for the 3% Tourism Product Development Grant Program may be submitted by various groups and organizations, including: not-for-profits, governments, businesses/corporations, public or private schools, and all landowners of Chautauqua County. Library To Host Touch-A-Truck Aug. 16

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library is celebrating the end of its Color Our World summer reading program with a Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families are invited to explore heavy machinery from the Lakewood Public Works Department and meet the people who operate the equipment, learn what they do and even sit behind the wheel.
