Club Honors Scholars Of Month

The Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club recently honored Scholars of the Month at a reception at the Lakeshore Assembly of God Church in Westfield from Westfield Academy and Central School, Brocton Central, Chautauqua Lake Central School (including Ripley) and Sherman Central School. The high school students were joined by parents, school staff and Rotarians. Students honored include: Westfield Academy and Central School: Zachary Maguire, Lillian Snyder, Alina Franklin, David Hoebener; Brocton Central School: Anthony Cruz, Michael Garcia, Jolena Doner ,Keyonna Kent & Kaylee-Sue Deming; Chautauqua Lake Central School: Mary Marshaus, Zach Braun, Paige Zarpentine , Charles Curtis and Devin Kelsey; Sherman Central School: Andrew Perry, Olivia Lindsey, Brady Phelps, Max Guzman and Kelsey Wagner.

Cassadaga Legion Post 1280 Auxiliary Meets

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Legion Post 1280 Auxiliary met recently. Chaplain Paula Pattison reported that the auxiliary did a funeral luncheon for the family of Unit 1280 member Maurene House. Membership chairperson Sally Lawson noted Unit 1280 members is at 101½% for the year. Poppy chairperson Lauren Sharp distributed poppy cans to local businesses and passed around a sign-up sheet for “Poppy Days” distribution that was held May 22-26. Discussion was held on the upcoming Sons of the Legion’s summertime Cruise-Nights that will be held the last Tuesday of the summer months: June 24, July 29 and Aug. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. Unit 1280 will be holding its pie and baked goods sales during cruise nights. Officers fo the coming year will be Ranee Kaus, president; Charyle Tyler, first vice president; ]Carol Baker, secretary; Sue DeGolier, treasurer; Paula Pattison, chaplain; and Lynn Moeller, sergeant-at-arms. The next auxiliary meeting will be held June 10. There will be a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. with installation of officers and the meeting to follow.

Youth

Development Program Funds available

The Chautauqua County Youth Bureau has Youth Development Program funding for the program term of Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2026. The money, made available through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, are intended to support programs and initiatives that promote the healthy development and well-being of youth across Chautauqua County. The Positive Youth Development approach focuses on building strengths and skills in young people, encouraging positive relationships, and creating supportive environments that enable youth to thrive. Eligible organizations are encouraged to submit proposals that align with those principles. Funding is administered through the Chautauqua County Youth Bureau and is open to municipalities and nonprofit community-based agencies that provide services to youth under the age of 21. Proposed programs should address priority outcomes in areas such as academic enrichment, life skills development, mentorship, employment readiness, youth leadership, physical and emotional wellness, and community engagement. The application period for the Youth Development Grant is now open and closes June 17 at 3:30 p.m. Interested applicants may access the Request for Proposal, application materials and guidelines by visiting chqgov.com/YouthGrantFunds. Funding decisions and awards will be based upon New York State Office of Children and Family Services guidelines.
