JAMESTOWN — Two people were injured as Jamestown Fire Department crews contained a blaze to the second floor of a city building Tuesday. According to officials, firefighters were dispatched to 40 W. Eighth St. for a reported structure fire at 7:51 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke and flames venting from the second floor in the rear of the building. Crews used a hand line and made entry through the front door. Firefighters then used a nearby hydrant to contain the fire to the second floor. Fredonia Mayor Michael Ferguson confirmed this week he will ask the Board of Trustees to suspend the public’s ability to comment at its meetings, starting at its next meeting. MAYVILLE - Chautauqua Lake Team II won the 36th annual Chautauqua County Envirothon held recently at Boy Scouts of America’s Camp Merz in Mayville. Students from 15 area schools, comprising 27 separate teams, competed. Students spent the day answering environmentally-based questions focused around the core areas of wildlife, forestry, soils, aquatics and a current issue.
