JHS 100 Member Club legacy continues in partnership with Chautauqua Region Community Foundation

For more than 80 years, Jamestown High School’s 100 Member Club has supported Jamestown High School students through scholarships and educational enhancements. Today, that legacy is poised to continue for generations to come through a partnership with the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The JHS 100 Member Club Board of Directors has approved plans to transfer the organization's assets to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, where they will establish the JHS Alumni 100 Member Club Scholarship Fund, a permanent charitable fund dedicated to continuing the club's ...

Jackson Center to screen film Saturday

The Robert H. Jackson Center will host a free screening of Nathan-ism on Saturday, June 6, at 6 p.m. at the center, 305 E. Fourth St., Jamestown. Admission is free and open to the public. Nathan-ism is a documentary that follows Nathan Hilu, a Jewish U.S. soldier assigned to guard Nazi war criminals during the Nuremberg Trials, and traces how those experiences shaped his life and his art. Legion Auxiliary Unit 556 Meets

The Samuel L. Derby American Legion Auxiliary Unit 556 recently held its monthly meeting with 14 members attending. Chaplain Dee Dee Liden gave the opening blessing. The April minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Debby Walsh, gave the April financial report. Jeff Levandoski, Chautauqua County Commander, presented his commander's project of repairing the 60-foot flagpole at the Allegheny Highland Boy Scout Council on Hough Hill Road in Falconer, as well as replacing the 12 x 18 American Flag. Area projects receive state funding

Two area water projects have received state funding for water or sewer improvements. The town of Dunkirk has received a $1.4 million state grant for the replacement of 13,000 linear feet of aged water mains and appurtenances including hydrants, valves and service meters in the Shorewood Water District while the village of of South Dayton received a $98,100 state grant for the design and construction of improvements to the wastewater treatment plant and sanitary collection system.
