Dunkirk police investigating fatal shooting

DUNKIRK - The Dunkirk Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 100 block of South Gazelle Street late Thursday. Officers responded to the area around 9:54 p.m. and located an adult male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. At this time, investigators do not believe there is any active threat to the community. Son sues mother over 2024 death of father

A man has sued his mother over the 2024 death of his father at the Chautauqua County garbage transfer station on Webster Road. William Bartoo was accidentally struck July 11, 2024, while depositing garbage into the pit at the county facility. He was hit by a vehicle driven by his wife, Sharon Bartoo. He died from his injuries July 30. William Bartoo’s son, Wesley Bartoo, subsequently sued the county. Chautauqua County also sued Sharon Bartoo over the incident. Inmate convicted in 2024 Brocton facility assault

An inmate tied to an incident in February 2024 where he barricaded himself inside his cell, attacked and cut two officers with a sharp piece of plastic from a toilet brush has been convicted. Late Thursday afternoon, a Chautauqua County jury convicted Windsor Coleman, 36, formerly of Massapequa, of four counts of felony second-degree assault, committed against Corrections Officers while he was housed in Lakeview Correctional Facility in Brocton, and two counts of felony first-degree promoting prison contraband, also occurring at the facility. “Whether they work for the ...
