A Jamestown residence sustained significant damage after it was struck by a car when a city man fled from police during a traffic stop.

Christopher L. Thomas, 43, of Jamestown was facing a host of charges in the incident, which occurred Saturday around 6:15 p.m. Jamestown police attempted to stop Thomas for failing to signal a turn; officers stopped Thomas earlier in the day and was known to have a suspended driver’s license.

Thomas fled from police at a high rate of speed until he jumped out of the moving car at the intersection of South Main Street and Prather Avenue in the city. The car continued down South Main Street, went over a curb and struck the side of a home at 117 S. Main St., causing “substantial damage to the building,” the Jamestown Police Department said in a press release.

Thomas was taken into custody on Prather Avenue. He was charged with felony first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and other vehicle and traffic violations.
