Southwestern Raises Money For Make-A-Wish Foundation

Southwestern Middle School raised $1,200 to donate to Make-A-Wish, the largest wish-granting charity in the world, dedicated to making wishes come true for critically ill children. With the help of SWMS students and faculty, Mr. Beckerink and Mrs. Pannes found themselves in a very sticky situation. As a final fundraiser event for Make-A-Wish, Miss LaGrega and student council sold strips of duct tape that students purchased for $1. As willing victims, Beckerink and Pannes were taped to a wall. The challenge was to see, once the stool was pulled away, who would stay up the longest. The contest ended in a tie. While the event was fun and exciting, the important message was to encourage students to be involved in their community and understand that kids can make a difference too.
