Barbara J. Kosko

Barbara J. (Nyquist) Kosko, 88, of Worthington, PA, formerly of Jamestown, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, in Sugar Creek Rest Home in Worthington, PA surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born Aug. 16, 1937, in Ridgeway, PA to the late Fritz and Alfreda (Werner) Nyquist.

She graduated in 1955 from St. Leo’s High School in Ridgeway, PA and later in life attended Jamestown Community College where she enjoyed taking courses in the nursing program.

Barbara was a devote Catholic and a member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church until her move to Worthington, PA in 2015. While a member with the parish she joined the Catholic Daughters of America and tried to attend daily mass. She loved to read and talk about her faith to family and friends.

While raising her children she was active in the PTA at Fairmount Elementary School and served as a Den Mother for both Boys and Girl Scout troops that her children were in.

One could find Barbara in the kitchen preparing a meal for her family or sitting in front of her sewing machine that she would place on the kitchen table and begin sewing away. She was an excellent seamstress that many around her used to hem a pair of pants or make a clothing item fit just right. If you couldn’t find her in the kitchen, she was probably in the living room sitting down crocheting or knitting an Afghan. In the warmer months she could be found outside tending to her roses and her tomato plants. She had an excellent green thumb. In her earlier years she was a very talented painter who enjoyed painting portraits. One thing was certain though Barb always had a hug to give to all who encountered her.

Barbara’s biggest achievement and love in life was the family she created with her late husband of 50 years, Harry Kosko. She is survived by her five children: Deborah (Scott) Sampson of Jamestown; John (Tammy) Kosko of Latrobe, PA; Paul (Linda) Kosko of Greensburg; PA, Pete Kosko of Worthington, PA; and Anne (Ron) Miller, of Greensburg, PA. Eight grandchildren: Rebecca (John) Siliano, Dan (Katie) Sampson, Katie Kosko Riedel, Michael (Taylor) Kosko, Steven Kosko, Bradley (Kaitlin) Kosko, Shawn Kosko, Robert Kosko; twelve great grandchildren: Hunter and Shelby Siliano, Easton and Maddison Sampson, Natalie Riedel, Kendall and Colin Kosko, Liliana, Rachel, Emily, James, Hailey Kosko, and a sister, Carol Nyquist of Hilton Head, SC.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Kosko whom she married Oct. 5, 1957, in Ridgeway, PA and passed away Feb. 2, 2008. Four sisters, Ruth West, Edna May Hyland, Shirley Flacinski, an infant sister, Rita Nyquist; and her brother, Maurice Nyquist.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church where Rev. Don Watkins will be celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 6 to 8 pm Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home.
