Erickson, Spangler, Sherry And Osswald Reach Semifinals

LAKEWOOD — Janis Osswald of Olean, Josh Erickson of Falconer, Jackson Spangler of Fredonia and Jackson Sherry of Maple Grove have reached the Final Four in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Tennis Singles Championships.
Playing at the Lakewood YMCA on Monday, the quartet not only advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal round, but they also guaranteed themselves a berth in the Section VI Championships, which will be held May 27-28 at Orchard Park High School.
Osswald, the top seed, didn’t lose a game on the day, downing Baker Johnson of Maple Grove 8-0 in the Round of 16 and then knocking off Cameron Katilus of Cassadaga Valley 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Erickson’s road to the semifinals, including an 8-4 win over Matthew Persia of Southwestern in the Round of 16, and a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Brayden Cook of Olean in the quarterfinals. Osswald and Erickson will meet in one semifinal on Wednesday.
On the other side of the bracket, Spangler didn’t lose a game in his two matches as he blanked Connor Horner of Panama 8-0 and dispatched of Luke Griffin of Allegany-Limestone 6-0, 6-0 to set up a semifinal match against Sherry on Wednesday.

Sherry advanced by virtue of an 8-0 win over Connor Main of Cassadaga Valley in the Round of 16 and a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Tahner Stow in the quarterfinals.
The tournament continues today with the doubles championships.
