ASHVILLE – The cause of a fire over the weekend has been revealed.

The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was called to conduct a cause and origin investigation for a fire which occurred Saturday morning within a residence on Matson Road in the town of Harmony. After a hands-on investigation at the scene and interviews with the homeowners, it was determined that there was a propane leak in the basement. Prior to the fire, an electric dryer was in use which caused the propane gas to ignite leading to the fire. The fire was accidental in nature.
