The Frewsburg girls soccer team had gone unbeaten in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association West 2 Division for four seasons, but this year that streak came to an end. The Bears still captured yet another league title, but Chautauqua Lake which came in second place managed to deliver the Bears a loss.

Playing the biggest role in snapping Frewsburg’s winning streak was Chautauqua Lake junior Jada Cole, who scored a goal and an assist in the game. Cole didn’t just shine in that game, she was great all year as she led the Thunderbirds with 18 goals and 11 assists and she was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Chautauqua Lake sophomore goalkeeper Lucy Gates earned the other top honor in the league as the Defensive Player of the Year. In net, Gates had four clean sheets in league play, posted a 1.68 goals against average on the season and made 168 saves.

The Chautauqua Lake duo was joined on the league’s First Team by junior midfielder Paige Zarpentine, who scored nine goals and added four assists on the season. Zarpentine also scored the game-winning goal that ended the Bears’ win streak.

While Frewsburg did not receive any individual accolades this year, it grabbed the most important thing, the league title and with that four selections to the First Team.
