CHAUTAUQUA — A Sheriff’s Department vehicle struck an Amish buggy on Sunday injuring five people.

The patrol car was traveling northwest on the Stockton-Hartfield Road when it ran into the rear of an Amish Buggy traveling in the same direction at approx 9:01 p.m. on the unlit road in the 55 mph zone. The buggy was heavily damaged and the horse had to be destroyed due to injuries.

The five people in the buggy were transported to Jamestown UPMC for injuries. The deputy was not hurt. Several Fire Departments and the County Medic Unit were dispatched to the scene due to the number of injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
