It wasn’t the outcome the Jamestown Community College hockey team was looking for Saturday as the Jayhawks dropped a 6-3 decision to Niagara University on Pink the Rink Night at Northwest Arena.
The Jayhawks found themselves in a 1-0 hole after the first period, but battled back to close the deficit to 4-3 deficit late in the third period.
With time winding down, Jamestown head coach Tommy Gerace made the decision to pull his goalie for the extra attacker. However, the Purple Eagles capitalized with a pair of empty-net goals to secure the 6-3 win.
While the game may not have gone the Jayhawks' way, they continued to make an impact off the ice by raising funds for breast cancer care through the WCA Foundation. The team auctioned off its game-worn pink jerseys and hosted additional fundraising events around the arena throughout the night.
With the loss, JCC’s record now stands at 2-2-1 on the season.
The Jayhawks will look to get back in the win column at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they travel to Erie Insurance Arena to take on Gannon University.

HERKIMER -- In a battle between two of the top teams in Region 3 women’s soccer, Jamestown Community College left Herkimer College with a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown CC had a few chances to even the game in the second half. Avery Johnson sent a shot off the pipe, while Gracie Chimera fired a ball wide of the net as the game remained 1-0.
That changed in the 82nd minute when Ellie Pearson was pulled down from behind in the box, setting up a penalty kick. Kaylyn Carnes stepped up to take the PK and buried the attempt to tie the game at 1-1.
The equalizer would be the final goal of the game as the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
With the tie, Jamestown moves to 8-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 in regional play.
