JCC men’s soccer prevails; hockey team sweeps

2 min read

TROY -- The Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team downed Hudson Valley Community College 4-0 in the opening round of the Region 3 playoffs over the weekend.

The Jayhawks dominated the action throughout the 90-minute affair, grabbing a 1-0 lead off the foot of sophomore Matthew Short, who finished the pass from fellow second-year starter Liam Doyle.

That advantage doubled before halftime as the other Doyle twin, Adam Doyle, sent the offering to Samuel Hynes, who touched home a 2-0 edge for JCC at the 34:18 mark.

The second half began with both teams having possession, but no scoring through almost 20 minutes before Liam Doyle scored his team-leading 11th of the year to take the upper hand, 3-0. Doyle was assisted by Hynes on the play.

With the scoreboard in their favor and the clock winding down, Jamie Duckworth put the game out of reach with an unassisted tally to make it 4-0 with under 15 minutes to play.

In net, Theo Merlin swatted away all four shots he faced to secure the shutout.

The victory sends the Jayhawks into the Region 3 quarterfinals on Wednesday.
