CASTILE -- Clymer/Sherman/Panama eighth-grader Savannah Whitney finished second in 18:50 to lead the Wolfpack to a fourth-place team finish in the Division 2 girls race at the John Izzo Classic on Saturday at Letchworth State Park.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama freshman Christopher Phelps took fifth overall in the Division 2 boys race with a time of 16:28.8 to lead the Wolfpack. Sophomore teammate Flynn Fadale was eighth (16:45.2) and another sophomore teammate, Zack Odell, was 10th (16:55.10).
In the boys Division 2 race, Clymer/Sherman/Panama finished second with 81 points, Maple Grove was fifth with 196 points, Franklinville/Ellicottville was 21st with 512 points and Southwestern was 23rd with 585 points.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama's final two scoring runners were 16th-place Ely Smith and 50th-place Brody Ellis.
For Maple Grove, Jack Sherry was 11th, Liam Price was 23rd, Finn Erlandson was 38th, William Benson was 66th and Maddox Lombardo was 83rd.
Ben Wedvik led Franklinville/Ellicottville in 76th, followed by 95th-place Kellen Hatch, Collin Weber (106th), James McAuley (166th) and Johnson Li (183rd).
Kaleb James was 103rd to finish as Southwestern's top runner. Thomas Chase was 130th, Nayen Berlund was 134th, Ginobili Velez-Rivera was 164th and Evan Strong was 180th.
In the girls Division 2 race, Clymer/Sherman/Panama was fourth with 150 points, Maple Grove was fifth with 154 points, Southwestern was 12th with 292 points
Helping Clymer/Sherman/Panama to its fourth-place girls finish, in addition to Whitney, were ninth-place Grace Cooke (20:18.8), 49th-place Riley Johnson, 54th-place Bethany Schlabach and 60th-place Caitlyn Kriner.
Maple Grove's fifth-place girls finish was led by 12th-place Lily Elliss, followed by Hayden Allen in 31st, Laine Pillittieri in 38th, Rylie Allen in 46th and Julia Verbosky in 53rd.
Lillian Weikel led Southwestern in 11th, followed by Elorna Barnett (50th), Larissa Raak (77th), Leala Carlson (101st) and Gabriella Chimenti (104th).
YERICO, KRENZER SHINE IN QUEENSBURY
QUEENSBURY -- Fredonia/Westfield's girls took fifth place with 197 points and the boys took 11th with 335 points during the Queensbury Pre-States Invitational on Saturday.
Running in the Varsity Girls Division I race, Sydney Yerico led the Hillbillies girls with a 17th-place finish in 20:04.7. Meredith Lendt was 27th in 20:38.5, followed by 43rd-place Isabella Czekanski, 74th-place Estella Tonelli and 96th-place Sennah Strauf. Fredonia/Westfield broke a fifth-place tie with Lake Placid because the Hillbillies' sixth runner, Emerson Dodd, finished 101st, which was better than Lake Placid's sixth runner.
The 21-team Varsity Girls Division I race was won by Beekmantown with 95 points while East Aurora was third with 106 points.
Running in the Varsity Boys Division I race, Trenton Krenzer led the Hillbillies with a 36th-place finish in 17:46.8. Jack Fagan was 66th, followed by Solomon McKnatt in 89th, Alexander Crame in 92nd and Levi Kindermann in 99th.
The 31-team Varsity Boys Division I race was won by East Aurora with 20 points. Barker was ninth with 280 points and Wilson was 31st with 922 points.
SALAMANCA COMPETES ON GRAND ISLAND
GRAND ISLAND -- Five Salamanca runners competed in the Western New York Officials' Invitational at Beaver Island State Park.
In the Small School boys race, Warriors junior Aiden George was ninth in 19:05.38 while junior George Parsons was 26th and Curtis Starr was 42nd.
In the Small School girls race, Salamanca eighth-grader Elliott Merrill was 13th in 23:44.47 and sophomore Kaylin Lemon was 14th in 23:49.39.
